Pottery Workshop: Summer of 2008

In central Mexico there is a small state named Morelos. In this small state there are approximately 1,600, 000 individuals, mostly of Mestizo (Spanish and Native American) descent. Within this sate there are approximately 9 communities who have Nahutal-speaking populations.

To this day there are individual families who make pottery for utilitarian purposes in the towns of Ticuman and Temixco.

In August 2008, our president will travel to this central Mexican state. And as of March 2008 we are organizing necessary measures for him to travel to a middle school in a local community to instruct school children how to make pottery in the traditional Nahuan styles. There he will also document the crafting of pottery and textiles as well as the preperation of variou typical foods of te region.

In order to further expand the organization’s acquaintance with the culture of this region, researchers and the president are being instructed in the regional dialect, and its traditions in order to preserve and protect the cultural heritage of this significant region.

The COEP officers are working to devise a genuine and approachable manner of teaching students the proper ways to make pottery.
